Chrystal Shines again winning Gold at International Acrobatics competition in Switzerland
We were delighted when we heard the good news on Friday afternoon. This was the first time Chrystal has been abroad let alone competing for her Country, it was a fantastic and memorable experience for her.
Chrystal trains and competes for Wakefield Acrobatic Gymnastics Club 5 Days a week as well as Coaching 2 days a week and training once a week for Black Diamond Artistic Gymnastics Club at Kingstone Community Sports Centre.
Due to the cancelled flights and recent travel problems from the ash cloud we didn’t know if the competition would still take place, the night before Chrystal was due to travel, she received news that the flight was still running and the competition was on.
It has been a hectic time preparing for the competition and waiting anxiously for travel news during the past week but everything has all paid off.
From her success winning an International Gold medal she will now compete at the British Acrobatic Championships in November later this year and we wish her the best of luck!!

Chrystal Wins Young Volunteer of the Year
Club nominated Best Club of the year
Christina & Froso Nominated young volunteers of the Year
Christina and Froso are 2 out of 3 triplet sisters who both found a passion for gymnastics and coaching. They spend most of their time either doing gymnastics or coaching it. They have been members of Black Diamond Community Gymnastics club for over 2 years now, finding a passion for coaching last year. Both Christina and Froso have never been involved in the sport before they joined Black Diamond and we are proud to have them on our young coaching team.
The girls never miss a class, always arriving 30 minutes before classes start to help set up equipment and warm the younger gymnasts up, the girls spend parts of what was their own training time now coaching instead. Training 3 times a week and coaching 3 times a week, the girls have very little time left for G.C.S.E school work.
Froso and Christina have helped organise events and have helped out at competitions ensuring everything was well organised and all gymnasts were prepared for action.
They have taken the British Gymnastics Helpers Award and are now planning on taking their level 1 assistant coach Award when they turn 16 next year. They are always around whenever they are needed never letting the club down.
The girls are now excellent gymnasts as well as excellent coaches, always bringing a smile to the club, they encourage and help other young teenagers to get involved with the sport and stick with it to make a career from gymnastics and healthy living.
We wish them luck as they will be competing in their first external competition in November and will prepare them for major competitions in 2010.
Black Diamond Community Gymnastics Club Short listed Best club of the Year
Black Diamond Community Gymnastics Club held at Kingstone Community Sports Centre is solely run by teenagers; the head coach Kimberley Waterhouse only 19 years old who started the club off when she was just 17 is now a taking her British Gymnastics Level 4 Senior Club Coach Award being one of the youngest in the country qualifying at this level. The club now have 7 young volunteer coaches aged 13 to 16 years old from all round the borough who all play a big part in the club.
Black Diamond is a small club with high expectations and goals set in stone in order to improve health, fitness and coaching in the area.
Black Diamond has finally managed to set up more classes to cater for more children and teens interested in the sport and high levels of skill improving from a 1 hour class per week to 6 classes a week, enabling us to include children with disabilities, special needs, and people of all ages into the club. From this the club was able to take part in their first major competition in May this year at the South Yorkshire gymnastics championships. They were more than happy when their gymnasts took Bronze, Silver and Gold medals at the competition being the current South Yorkshire champions on floor.
This has lead to the club entering more gymnasts into the next competition held at Rotherham in November leading up to the major competitions in 2010 which we expect nearly all gymnasts to be competing. As well as preparing for our annual Christmas competition and performance in December.
The club also held a Cancer Charity fundraiser competition in July this year, inviting other clubs from around Yorkshire totalling at 58 competitors taking part in the community event to raise money for Weston Park Cancer Charity which was dedicated to one of the senior volunteer coaches Donna who suffers from cancer. The club raised over £360 that day making the event a success.
Black Diamond Community Gymnastics Club put their efforts into improving the level and quality of gymnastics in the Barnsley and South Yorkshire area, also creating young sport leaders and qualified coaches for the future creating a better outlook on coaching levels and career prospects in Barnsley and South Yorkshire. They mentor and guide young teenagers and adults to achieve their goals weather that be competing or coaching to give them a brighter look on the future.
